International Style Weeks Limited, organizers of Miss Interglobal Nigeria 2012 (MIGN) beauty pageant has set an ambitious goal of raising N50 million to fight the triple scourge of maternal/child mortality, human trafficking & sexual exploitation and teenage pregnancy in Nigeria, as part of the social cause the pageant winner will undertake during her one year reign as queen.
This was disclosed at a press conference held in Lagos recently to formally intimate the media of the decision to fight squarely this scourge that has cut short the lives of many promising women due poverty, disease, ignorance and lack of access to medical advice and care.
According to Mr. Bassey Essien, CEO of International Style Weeks Limited, the MIGN pageant social cause aims to raise the money within twelve months and this would be used to advocate for the reduction of human trafficking & sexual exploitation and to further create awareness of the impact of teenage pregnancy and maternal/child mortality so as to aid a decline in its occurrence in Nigeria.
“The United Nations puts the figure of women who die annually at 53,000 due to pregnancy related illnesses and 241,000 children die in the first month in Nigeria making it Africa’s highest new born death toll,” he said.
Mr. Essien further disclosed that the MIGN 2012 winner will go home with a brand new car, annual salary of N2.4million, represent Nigeria at the global finals at Montego Bay, Kingston, Jamaica on September 22nd 2012, as well as work closely with several first ladies, local councils, NGOs and the media to draw attention to the scourge of maternal & child mortality, teenage pregnancy and trafficking in persons and sexual exploitation of women in Nigeria with a view to reducing their impact.
Proudly supported by Akwa Ibom State Government, this event gives young Nigerian women a platform to fulfill their purpose, learn leadership skills, engage in community work and build their confidence. The MIGN beauty pageant is exclusively for young Nigerian women between 16 to 26 years, of which winners would be selected and the ‘queen’ crowned at the national finals billed for Saturday, 19th May, 2012 at the Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Other supporting organizations include Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the official broadcast Partners, and leading textile producer, Da Viva, food and beverage giant, Nestle Nigeria Plc and Official carrier, Arik Airline. Others include Rose of Sharon Prints & Promotions, Digital Reality, Genevieve, Glam & Essence Magazine, Exquisite Magazine and The Moment Newspaper.
