The delightfully creative Kenyan designer had her showcase at the SAFW 2012 recently. Her new summer collection was tagged- '4 Saisons de Kensoul' which means 4 seasons of Kensoul, according to the designer- Liz Ogumbo-
In life, there have been so many seasons; some I look forward to and some I don’t. The funny thing is that the seasons I do not look forward to only become clear to me when they are actually happening. Otherwise if we had the ability to see and control what we do not want to deal with before it becomes our sad reality, we could possibly control/change it and smile throughout our lives.
No one knows about tomorrow, however we all have the ability to smile and keep moving despite the seasons in our lives. So I choose to smile all through even when I have no strength. I smile through my face, my attitude, my clothes, my shoes, my lingerie, my weaves and sometimes my hair and it eventually makes the world smile back.
The designer went on further to say-
In my Africa, the bright colors through the Kitenge fabric, also known as Africa Wax Print are quite bold, expressing a whole lot more than a whole lot less; personality, world view and African women’s approach to that, depending on how you choose to express yourself.
When all the colors are exhausted out of every woman’s wardrobe, the Kitenge has finally become the epitome of timeless fashion. Very bold, fun, colorful, many may say, yet very authentic!
Somehow the kitenge allows you to shine through without hiding yourself; from simple meetings, to luncheons and dinner parties, to the red carpet events and back to a romantic date.
My album KenSoul reflects on my Kenyan soul and everything that inspires this range, hence the application of my album lyrics onto the range. The Lyrics have been printed on cottons and other fabric blends to be used for Jacket, skirt, dress lining, swimwear, blouses and scarves to balance the textures, colors and fabric while integrating my KenSoul into my fashion.
My integration of the bling factor through the usage of sequin along with the Kitenge fabric and my album lyrics application onto the lining and blouses exudes power, self-actualization, self-expression, self-determination, self-certainty and timeless elegance.
To this modern woman, summer is a lifestyle expressed and translated through her mood, colors, cuts, lengths and textures.; She steps out in style no matter what season effortlessly exuding self confidence, elegance & grace.
We bring you the WHOLE COLLECTION in living colour. Like we have always said at various times, Africa has the largest number of the most naturally talented and skillful people in the world. The fear of Africa's emergence is the beginning of wisdom for the whole world. We are gradually and steadily showcasing our creative ability through the arts and one of those helping in carrying that flag is LIZ OGUMBO!
We totally love the whole range, it had a story to tell, and the colour combination is a waoh!!! And the styling must be commended. Many gun salute to LIZ.
