MATTERS ARISING- THE AIR NIGERIA SACK

Someone sent the following to us in the aftermath of the suspension of all operations at Air Nigeria and subsequent sack of the majority of the staff members of the airline.

''How can Jimoh Ibrahim get away with this...making hundreds of innocent staff and their families jobless and not sure of where the next meal will come from. Air Nigeria owes them 5 months well deserved salaries, after putting them on compulsory leave for 1 month and finally sacks them on the pages of the newspapers without any notice and benefits.

These staff holding valid letter/contract of employments of Air Nigeria. And nobody is saying anything about this. This is the height of injustice and human abuse. Why would the FG look on and let this pass by just like the Farouk Lawan & Dana Air? It's sad!!!

Out of curiosity to know better, we have decided to post this. Does the argument above hold water. Also can the owner of a big business like Air Nigeria wake up one day and decide to shut down, while sacking all the workers. Do the workers have any right to any form of compensation(s). What does the law say about the situation.
BARRISTER JIMOH IBRAHIM

JIMOH IBRAHIM'S NEWSWATCH SACKS RAY EKPU,DAN AGBESE, YAKUBU MOHAMMED & SOJI AKINRINADE

It's the end of the road for 3 of those who were the 4 cardinal points of the former award winning News Magazine-NEWSWATCH. The management of the magazine very recently led by the new owner Barr.Jimoh Ibrahim announced the sack of Messrs Ray Ekpu, Yakubu Mohammed & Soji Akinrinade from the Board of Directors of Newswatch Communication Limited.

Their removal is the outcome of an agreement of a Share Purchase Agreement signed by them, which requires the trio to have a certain percentage of shares in the company to be on the board of the company. The total percentage of shares being held by the trio was put at 6.1% of the total shares of the company. This percentage is said not to have met the requirement of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, and that of the SPA the trio had signed. By this sack the trio are no more directors of the company they had helped to found with the late Dele Giwa.

According to Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim an aspiring director of the company is required to have a minimum of 10% shares in the company. Barrister Ibrahim further went on to say the trio by signing the S.P.A knew what was required of them.
